LTFRB lauds taxi driver for returning P2.4M to Iloilo passenger

MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Wednesday lauded a taxi driver for returning a bag containing PHP2.4 million left by a passenger in his cab in Iloilo City.

In a statement, LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III said the taxi driver, 52-year-old Anthony Barredo Aguirre, had “honesty and integrity” and was a “model for everyone in the transport sector.”

“Aguirre’s exemplary act of honesty is proof that there are still good and honorable Filipinos who prioritize integrity over personal gain,” Guadiz said.

Aguirre, a resident of Barangay Amparo in Pavia, Iloilo City, had arrived home when he received a call from his operator asking if a passenger left a bag in his taxi.

He found the bag under the passenger side seat of his cab and brought it to the local police station to be returned to its owner.

“Although such an amount could have been a great help in their lives, he still chose to do what was right. His actions inspire trust and respect for the transport industry,” Guadiz said.

On Tuesday, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas conferred the title of “Honorary Citizen of Iloilo” to Aguirre and a reward of PHP20,000. (PNA)
