LRT-1 operator names new prexy, CEO

MANILA – The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) on Thursday announced the appointment of Enrico Benipayo as its new president and chief executive officer (CEO) effective November 1.

In a statement, the LRMC —the operator and maintenance provider of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1)— said the appointment was made after an “effective transition” of LRMC management under interim president and CEO Jose Ma. Lim for over half a year.

“Mr. Lim’s leadership and guidance during the transition period have been instrumental in ensuring the smooth operations of LRT-1,” it said.

Prior to his new position, Benipayo served as LRMC’s general manager since April 2024, and was responsible for overseeing the company’s day-to-day operations.

He held the position of LRMC chief operating officer (COO) before he was appointed general manager.

“A seasoned rail industry veteran with over 35 years of experience in engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance, and O&M (operations and maintenance) consultancy, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role,” it said.

Lim is set to become the chair of the LRMC executive committee.

“With Mr. Benipayo at the helm, the company is poised to further enhance the LRT-1 experience with the expected opening of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 and contribute to the development of Metro Manila’s transportation system,” it said. (PNA)
