A livestock distribution event was held at Camp Leon Kilat in Barangay Sta. Cruz Viejo, Tanjay City, as part of the Deradicalization Program for Former Rebels (FRs). The initiative aims to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities to former insurgents who are transitioning back into civilian life.
Organized by the Department of Agriculture (DA) in partnership with the Provincial Agriculture and Technology Coordinating Office (PATCO), the program distributed goats, cattle, and other livestock to beneficiaries. These resources are intended to support agricultural and animal husbandry activities for income generation.
Representatives from the DA, including Ms. Nova Mae V. Melanio, RSBSA Admin; Mr. Leus Augustine A. Apale of the Organic Agriculture Staff; and Mr. Bernad R. Limbaga, Chief of the Northern Negros Rural Development Center (NORBC), facilitated the event. The 302nd Infantry Brigade, along with the 11th and 62nd Infantry Battalions, provided logistical and security support.
The Deradicalization Program, implemented under the National Reintegration Program, includes vocational training, financial education, and psychosocial support to help former rebels reintegrate into society. In Negros Oriental, where agriculture is a major economic activity, livestock farming is seen as a practical means to support livelihoods and contribute to local economies.
The program also involves collaboration among local government units (LGUs), military units, and community stakeholders to ensure the effective reintegration of participants.
