Liberal Party fields newbies, ‘returnees’ for Negros Oriental posts

DUMAGUETE CITY – The Liberal Party (LP) in Negros Oriental is fielding newbies and returning political aspirants for the May 2025 midterm polls.

On Monday, lawyer Felipe Claudio Remollo filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) to replace his father, incumbent Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo who is on his last term.

The younger Remollo, the former chief of staff of House Speaker Martin Romualdez, is taking his first shot at an elective post.

His running mate is incumbent Councilor Karissa Faye Tolentino Maxino, also a lawyer.

Meanwhile, incumbent Dumaguete Mayor Antonio Remollo, also the LP chair in the province, filed his COC for the 2nd congressional district.

Incumbent Vice Governor Jaime Reyes likewise filed his COC for reelection as an independent.

Reyes became vice governor by succession following the demise of Governor Roel Degamo, who was slain on March 4, 2023, and Carlo Jorge Joan Reyes, the vice governor who succeeded Degamo but who succumbed to a lingering illness two months later.

LP is also fielding another newcomer, Janice Teves-Gaston, for the 3rd congressional district.

She is the aunt of former governor Pryde Henry Teves and ousted Arnolfo Teves Jr., who was arrested in Timor Leste in March this year for multiple criminal cases, including Degamo’s killing. (PNA)
