Labor and management groups joined forces to bring relief to 400 families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (Trami) in Laguna, Philippines, on Wednesday. Spearheaded by the Laguna Industrial Peace Council, Inc. (LIPCI), the relief efforts were supported by City Tripartite Industrial Peace Councils (CTIPC) from BiƱan, Cabuyao, Calamba, San Pedro, and Santa Rosa.
Dubbed “Project Damayan sa Laguna,” this collaborative initiative involved labor unions, corporate management, and the Laguna provincial government, aiming to deliver prompt assistance to families in need. “These operations represent symbols of hope, care, and solidarity,” said Marjorie Arcebuche, Senior Labor and Employment Officer at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the project secretariat. āWe are committed to standing by the community as they rebuild and move forward.ā
The relief operation reached 200 families in Barangay Dos, Calamba, and another 200 in Barangay Landayan, BiƱan. Due to severe flooding in BiƱan, distributions were relocated to Barangay Santo Domingo. Essential goods were distributed at the Purok 7 Basketball Court in Calamba and BiƱan Central Elementary School (DoƱa) in Barangay Santo Domingo, beginning at 8:00 AM on November 6, 2024.
The DOLE Laguna Provincial Office highlighted the event on social media, emphasizing the unity and cooperation that brought the relief effort to fruition. Arcebuche commended the collaboration, calling it “proof of what we can achieve when we come together for a common cause.”
Project Damayan sa Laguna stands as a testament to the strength of community solidarity, providing crucial aid as families recover from the storm’s impact.
