Inmates in Naujan Join Colorful Kite Festival

NAUJAN, Oriental Mindoro — Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)–Naujan District Jail took part in the vibrant Saranggolahan sa Naujan kite festival held on Easter Sunday, April 20, at the Naujan Sports Complex.

The event featured colorful, handcrafted kites created by the inmates as part of the BJMP’s ongoing rehabilitation program. The initiative aims to encourage creativity, discipline, and positive social interaction among the PDLs as they prepare for reintegration into society.

BJMP officers proudly showcased the inmates’ works, with the PDLs flying their kites alongside other community participants. Among the notable entries was a kite designed to resemble a BJMP transport vehicle, which won Best Design in the Synchronized Kite Category, besting 16 other entries.

“This goes beyond vocational training,” said Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, regional information officer of BJMP-Mimaropa. “By integrating arts and cultural expression, we provide PDLs with an outlet for personal growth and transformation.”

Jail Officer 1 Allen Glen Delica, community relations officer of BJMP-Naujan, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing how such events help inmates rediscover their potential and rebuild a sense of purpose.

The BJMP remains committed to reforms and programs that support the rehabilitation of PDLs, enabling them to return to their communities as productive citizens.
