Iligan City prioritizes health-based approach in anti-drug campaign

Iligan City launched its Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week on Monday, November 18, 2024, emphasizing a health-centered approach to combatting illegal drug use.

Rowel Rubio, chairperson of the Iligan Anti-Drug Abuse Council, stressed the importance of shifting the focus from punitive measures to compassionate and science-based solutions. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach that addresses the underlying causes of drug abuse and provides support for rehabilitation and recovery.

Col. Reinante Delos Santos, Iligan police director, acknowledged the city government’s support for anti-drug operations while emphasizing the importance of balancing law enforcement with alternative approaches.

The week-long program aims to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promote community-based initiatives to prevent and address the issue. By prioritizing a health-based approach, Iligan City seeks to create a more effective and compassionate response to drug addiction.
