BAGUIO CITY – Food and non-food relief items as well as financial assistance continue to pour in for Cordillerans as Super Typhoon Pepito (international name Man-yi) slammed most of Luzon.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Cordillera, in its social media post Sunday afternoon, said 3, 500 family food packs (FFPs) have been delivered to the Apayao Social Welfare and Development Satellite warehouse.
The delivery is part of the 10, 000 FFPs allotted by the agency’s national resource center.
Apayao is under a state of calamity following the devastation of successive typhoons the past weeks.
In the 5 p.m. weather bulletin Sunday, parts of Apayao are under Tropical Cycle Wind Signal Nos. 1 and 2.
DSWD data showed that as of noontime Sunday, the regional office has 58, 685 family food packs worth PHP 42 million and 24, 779 packs of non-food items worth PHP 52 million.
DSWD-Cordillera Director Maria Aplaten led the distribution of relief items in Itogon, Benguet.
“We continue to deliver and distribute relief items to the local government units for augmentation of their supplies as typhoons continue to affect us,” she said.
The PHP 5, 000 cash assistance under the agency’s Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program and the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation are also being distributed to typhoon-affected families.
The cash aid is separate from the local government-initiated assistance.
Local governments have also distributed construction supplies.
“We also participate in the psychosocial intervention for persons temporarily residing in evacuation centers as part of the recovery effort for the victims,” Aplaten said.
Meanwhile, the Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council cautioned people residing along Agno River to stay home as Binga Dam in Itogon continued to release water amid heavy rains.
As of 5 p.m., the National Power Corporation said six gates of the Binga Dam were open by five meters while eight gates of Ambuklao Dam in Bokod were open by 4 meters. (PNA)
