The southwest monsoon, or habagat, is expected to keep bringing heavy rains over parts of Luzon through Sunday, August 30, PAGASA said, with several areas still at risk of flooding and rain-induced landslides.
Based on the weather outlook, La Union, Benguet, Bataan, and Zambales may receive the heaviest rainfall, with possible accumulated rains of up to 200 millimeters. These levels are enough to trigger concern in mountain slopes, low-lying communities, river channels, and areas already soaked by previous downpours.
Metro Manila and nearby provinces may also see significant rainfall, with projected amounts of around 50 to 100 millimeters. While lower than the forecast for parts of western and northern Luzon, this can still cause street flooding, traffic disruption, and slower drainage in urban areas, especially during sustained or repeated bursts of rain.
PAGASA said the habagat remains the dominant weather system affecting Luzon. A low-pressure area inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility is also being monitored, but the weather bureau said it is not expected to make landfall.
For residents in affected areas, the warning is straightforward: keep monitoring advisories, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and stay alert for local evacuation or road closure notices. Even without a storm making landfall, the habagat can still bring enough rain to disrupt communities and put vulnerable areas at risk.
