In a significant breakthrough, law enforcement officials in Western Visayas apprehended the region’s fourth most wanted individual on November 14, 2024, in the peaceful Barangay San Isidro, EB Magalona, Negros Occidental. The suspect, who had managed to evade capture for several years, is now facing charges of frustrated murder and two counts of attempted murder.
The arrest was carried out by operatives from the 605th Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6(RMFB-6), acting on a tip-off about the individual’s whereabouts. At approximately 12:57 PM, authorities closed in on the suspect, who had been living under an alias in the community.
The suspect’s identity remains undisclosed as the investigation is ongoing. He had been on the run for years, making his capture a major victory for law enforcement in the region. As the fourth most wanted individual in Western Visayas, his criminal activities had significantly impacted the local community.
The charges stem from a violent incident in which the suspect is believed to have been involved in a brutal attack on multiple victims. According to police reports, he was connected to a failed assassination attempt on a local resident, as well as an ambush that left two people critically injured. While both incidents did not result in fatalities, the trauma inflicted on the community was severe.
The successful operation that led to the suspect’s arrest was the result of careful planning and collaboration between local law enforcement agencies, including RMFB-6 and the EB Magalona Police Station. Officials emphasized that intelligence gathering and cooperation with local residents were crucial in locating the suspect.
The 605th Maneuver Company, renowned for its tactical expertise, played a key role in ensuring a smooth operation, with the suspect taken into custody without any resistance. Lieutenant Colonel Arnulfo A. Villafuerte, commanding officer of RMFB-6, praised the professionalism of the team involved in the operation.
Following the arrest, the suspect was transported to the EB Magalona Police Station for processing. He is expected to face formal charges and undergo further investigation. Authorities are also exploring possible links to other criminal activities in the region as they continue to investigate his background.
The capture of this high-profile fugitive comes at a time when Western Visayas is grappling with an increase in violent crime, particularly in rural areas. Negros Occidental, in particular, has experienced challenges related to land disputes, insurgency-related violence, and organized crime. While the province has made progress in reducing its overall crime rate in recent years, issues such as murder, attempted murder, and illegal drug activities remain persistent. The arrest of this wanted individual is part of a broader effort by law enforcement to curb violent crime and ensure justice for the victims of these heinous acts.
