Fall for Taytay Falls

Hiking up mountains during the rainy season can be risky because of the slippery and muddy terrain. But when the rains come, and water is at its most abundant, there’s a destination near Metro Manila that offers both beauty and safety—Taytay Falls. Frequent rains enhance this natural gem’s grandeur, as it makes the cascades more powerful, thorough, and just visually mesmerizing.

Located roughly 111 kilometers from Manila, in the picturesque town of Majayjay, Laguna, Taytay Falls sits at the foot of Mount Banahaw, inviting travelers to experience its cold waters.

Despite its name, Taytay Falls is not located in Taytay, Rizal, as many might assume. Locals sometimes refer to it as Majayjay Falls, after its home in Barangay Gagalot, Majayjay.

The journey to Majayjay is an adventure in itself, requiring a travel time of about 3-4 hours from Manila, depending on traffic. The route passes through towns like Santo Tomas, Alaminos, San Pablo, Nagcarlan, and Liliw, giving travelers a taste of the local countryside.

Upon reaching the Barangay Hall, travelers pay a registration fee before heading to the nearby parking area, where an assortment of eateries and souvenir stalls await. These spots offer not only delicious local dishes but also keepsakes and gifts, perfect for bringing a piece of the adventure back home.

For those considering an overnight stay, accommodations are available in the parking compound, ideal for those who have traveled from far and want to take their time exploring.

Before setting off on the trail, it’s wise to change into swimwear at the parking area or restroom facilities, as options are limited closer to the falls. The hike begins with a descent via concrete steps, gradually transitioning into a semi-rough trail. The path winds through lush greenery, and on the left side, a pristine canal with crystal-clear water teases what’s to come.

After roughly a 20-minute walk, depending on one’s pace, the breathtaking Taytay Falls emerges, its waters cascading down in a symphony of nature’s splendor. The cool mist, the rush of water, and the verdant surroundings make the journey worthwhile.

Taytay Falls isn’t just a destination; it’s an experience—a hidden masterpiece cradled in a lesser-known town in Laguna. It invites you to pause, take in the beauty, and let nature’s wonders sweep you off your feet.
