DSWD MIMAROPA brings ERPAT program to Palawan 4Ps dads

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA has launched the Empowerment and Reaffirmation of Paternal Abilities (ERPAT) program for Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries in Palawan. The initiative began with a training session for 25 fathers from Narra, held from November 6 to 8, 2024.

The ERPAT program is a DSWD initiative aimed at promoting responsible fatherhood, focusing on family relationships, child development, and values formation. “ERPAT seeks to equip fathers with the skills and knowledge necessary to actively engage in family life and serve as positive role models in their communities,” said Faith Crispino, 4Ps Palawan Provincial Link.

The program features hands-on activities and open discussions, allowing fathers to share experiences and learn together. Topics covered include family dynamics, financial management, and effective parenting strategies. “This program is a crucial step in strengthening the role of fathers in our families and communities. We want them to feel empowered, responsible, and appreciated,” said Maria Linda Dubla, Narra Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer.

The training also addressed issues such as promoting a drug-free home, HIV prevention, and positive discipline. “Many fathers here are sometimes hesitant to take on family responsibilities due to a lack of knowledge. Through ERPAT, they are learning, gaining confidence, and realizing the importance of their role as fathers,” Dubla added.

DSWD plans to expand the ERPAT program to other areas in Palawan next year. The program will continue in the towns of Cuyo and Magsaysay later this November, with the involvement of local officials and more 4Ps fathers.
