The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed PhP5.39 million in financial aid to 2, 695 residents of four barangays under District I through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program. The distribution took place on Saturday, November 23, at the Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University gymnasium in Baliwasan.
The event was attended by key city officials, including Mayor John Dalipe, District II Congressman Mannix Dalipe, Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja, and members of the City Council, who expressed their continued support for social welfare initiatives aimed at helping residents in need.
Beneficiaries from Barangays Pasonanca, Baliwasan, and Campo Islam received ₱ 2, 000 each, along with a sack of 5 kilos of rice provided by the Dalipe family. The assistance aims to help individuals and families cope with challenges arising from financial or medical crises, such as health emergencies, bereavement, or loss of livelihood.
The AICS program, implemented by the DSWD, is a nationwide social welfare initiative designed to provide immediate financial and material assistance to individuals and families in crisis. It covers a wide range of emergencies, including medical expenses, burial costs, and food shortages.
Mayor Dalipe emphasized the importance of such programs in addressing urgent needs, especially in vulnerable communities. “This program is a lifeline for those facing unexpected hardships, and we are committed to ensuring that help reaches those who need it most,” he said.
The AICS program was established to “mitigate the immediate impacts of crises on vulnerable populations.” The Saturday distribution is part of the ongoing efforts by local and national agencies to provide accessible support to marginalized sectors, ensuring they receive timely aid in times of crisis.
