DSWD aid for Enteng-hit areas hits nearly P250-M

MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Tuesday it has distributed almost PHP250 million worth of food and non-food items to families hit by Severe Tropical Storm Enteng and southwest monsoon or habagat.

DSWD spokesperson and Assistant Secretary for Disaster Response Management Group Irene Dumlao said PHP248.4 million in aid were augmented to the various regions affected the weather disturbance.

Dumlao also reported that the agency has already released 587,952 family food packs (FFPs) that are either distributed to beneficiaries, released, delivered, for delivery, and/or set for pick-up by local government units (LGUs) from the various warehouses of DSWD Field Offices along Enteng’s path.

While Enteng made landfall and razed Casiguran and Aurora before it crossed Quirino, Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao and Ilocos Norte, it enhanced the southwest monsoon or habagat which brought heavy rains and thunderstorms in Bicol and the Visayas regions.

Of the total FFPs, 217,140 were given to Bicol Region; 112,939 to Central Luzon; 94,757 to Calabarzon; 78,788 to the National Capital Region (NCR); 53,782 to Eastern Visayas; 29,116 to Ilocos Region; 1,321 to Cagayan Valley; 83 to Western Visayas; and 26 to the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

“We assure our affected citizens that the DSWD Field Offices remain in close coordination with our counterparts in the local government units to ensure that you will receive sufficient assistance,” Dumlao said. (PNA)
