DPWH identifies sites for 33 motorist assistance stations for ‘Undas’

LAOAG CITY – A total of 33 motorist assistance stations will be set up along major, secondary, and tertiary roads in the Ilocos Region starting October 31 to help motorists during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day or Undas.

Engineer Jocelyn Oamar, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 1 (Ilocos) spokesperson, said Tuesday that preparations are underway for the deployment of personnel to man these stations.

She said the assistance stations would be manned by an automotive mechanic who could troubleshoot in case of a vehicle breakdown, emergency responders who would be tasked to coordinate and communicate with the search and rescue team of the Philippine National Police (PNP), and village officials who would be ready to provide ambulances in case of a vehicular accident.

“The ‘Lakbay Alalay’ motorists assistance teams, comprising dedicated personnel from both regional and district engineering offices, will be in action for three days, starting at 8 a.m. on October 31, 2024, until 5 p.m. on November 2, 2024, along the designated areas,” she said in an interview.

A huge number of travelers going to and from cemeteries and memorial parks is expected on November 1 and 2 for All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.

The road assistance program is also being reactivated ahead of the holidays, and will be implemented along with the PNP, Land Transportation Office, and local government units, Oamar added. (PNA)
