DPWH completes rehab of flood control structure in Davao City

MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the rehabilitation of the flood control structure for the downstream section of the Lasang River in Davao City.

A report of DPWH 11 (Davao Region) Director Juby Cordon to Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan said the PHP 49 million project was made to protect riverside communities from flooding.

He said the completed rehabilitation work along the vital section of the Lasang River, extending toward the Lasang Bridge, strengthens the riverbank’s foundation against flooding and erosion.

“The rehabilitation activities on the existing revetment structure along the waterway were highly needed to prevent deterioration and provide heightened safety to vulnerable communities, including their properties and essential infrastructure facilities in the area,” Cordon said in a statement on Thursday.

Implemented by the DPWH-Davao City’s 3rd District Engineering Office, the project covers the construction and rehabilitation of a 234.6-lineal meter concrete revetment wall with steel sheet piles, fortifying the structure’s capacity and prolonging its service cycle.

The completed project was funded under the 2024 Regular Infrastructure Program. (PNA)
