DPWH-13 completes 2 river protection projects in Agusan Norte

BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways in Caraga Region (DPWH-13) announced Monday the completion of two river protection projects in Santiago, Agusan del Norte.

The projects, designed to mitigate flood risks in riverside communities, particularly in Barangays Poblacion 1 and La Paz, aim to safeguard lives and properties, DPWH-13 said in a statement.

The flood control structures along the Aciga and Kalinawan Rivers were built at a combined cost of PHP270.2 million.

The first project, a 390-meter concrete dike along the Aciga River from Poblacion 1 to the Kalinawan River in La Paz, was completed for PHP144.75 million.

The second project, a 257-meter structure along the Aciga River in Poblacion, cost PHP125.45 million.

DPWH-13 Regional Director Pol Delos Santos said the new flood control systems will also protect agricultural lands from flooding, especially during the rainy season. (PNA)
