DOT suspends tourism activities near Mt. Kanlaon for public safety

The Department of Tourism announced that all tourism activities in areas near mt. kanlaon in negros occidental are temporarily suspended following an explosive eruption on april 8, which produced an ash plume reaching about 4,000 feet. The agency is working closely with local government units to prioritize public safety amid the volcanic unrest.

According to an advisory, activities such as trekking and visits to nearby destinations—including la carlota city, bago city, la castellana, and other surrounding areas—have been halted to protect both residents and tourists. Ashfall has also been reported in parts of guimaras, iloilo, and antique, prompting the dot to advise travelers to postpone any travel plans and follow local safety measures.

The department noted that, despite the eruption, tourist accommodations and infrastructures in the affected areas remain structurally sound. Currently, mt. kanlaon is at alert level 3, and there have been no reports of stranded tourists.
