DOST backs Malaybalay City’s new ‘Digital Emergency Tracking System’ project

Malaybalay City has launched the Digitized Emergency Tracking Alert System and GeoPindot Mobile Application, a collaborative effort with the Department of Science and Technology Region X (DOST-X) last September 30, aimed at addressing public safety and disaster response.

This initiative is part of the DOST’s Smart and Sustainable Communities Program, which promotes smart technologies and Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) interventions across local communities.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Head Alan J. Comiso emphasized the project’s role in enhancing community preparedness. “In our increasingly digital world, leveraging technology for safety and disaster preparedness is crucial. The digital alert system enables swift, effective responses to both natural and human-made emergencies, ensuring timely communication and coordination,” Comiso said.

Malaybalay City, prone to natural hazards like landslides, flooding, and frequent road accidents, anticipates that the new digital system will significantly improve emergency management and response through advanced tracking and tactical planning capabilities.

Launched alongside the tracking system, the GeoPindot Mobile Application empowers residents to report emergencies directly from their mobile phones. Integrated with the tracking alert system, GeoPindot provides real-time monitoring and location data to authorities, enhancing situational awareness and response times.

The launch event featured a ribbon-cutting, a roadmap presentation on the DOST and LGU’s Smart Program, technology demonstrations by OBX Solutions Inc., and a Pledge of Commitment signed by stakeholders and representatives from 15 pilot barangays that will play a crucial role in the project’s implementation.

Mayor Jay Warren Pabillaran highlighted the importance of local partnerships in driving technological advancements. “We are using the technology available to serve our residents. I’m grateful for this collaboration with DOST, the barangays, and our uniformed personnel. The City Government couldn’t accomplish this alone,” Pabillaran said.

With the Digitized Emergency Tracking System and GeoPindot, Malaybalay City aims to enhance its emergency response capabilities, position itself as a leader in smart city initiatives, and ensure a safer, more connected community for its citizens.
