Donated computers to DepEd-Mimaropa seen to back PISA preps

MANILA – The 50 desktop computers received by the Department of Education (DepEd) 4-B (Mimaropa) from an education partner can reinforce the region’s preparations for international assessments, such as the upcoming Program for International Student Assessment (PISA).

In a news release on Thursday, DepEd 4-B Director Nicolas Capulong thanked the Pilipinas Today for its donation, calling it “a gift from heaven.”

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, who witnessed the turnover at the DepEd 4-B office in Pasig City on Wednesday, also thanked Pilipinas Today CEO Renesar Deunida for the donation.

Talagang hulog ng langit ito, Sir. Kami ay taos-pusong nagpapasalamat. Maraming, maraming salamat, Sir Rene (This is indeed a gift from heaven, Sir. We sincerely thank you. Thank you very much, Sir Rene),” Angara said.

“Rene, he came from humble beginnings. At alam niya ‘yong (and he knows the) transformative power of technology.”

Deunida, also a product of the public school system, pledged to distribute another 50 units of desktop computers next month.

Deunida has served as the Information Technology specialist for the United Nations, HSBC, and the World Health Organization. (PNA)
