DOH-RO8 calls for coordinated reporting of suicide cases

By David Vera

The Department of Health (DOH) in Eastern Visayas is working with local health facilities and police stations to standardize suicide data reporting, addressing inconsistencies that have hampered effective public health responses. DOH regional information officer Jelyn Lopez-Malibago highlighted the need for reliable data to inform mental health programs and resource allocation.

With 204 suicide cases reported by police in 2023 compared to 95 recorded by rural health units, the DOH aims to synchronize reporting protocols across the region to close these gaps and improve mental health support services.
