DOH Northern Mindanao distributes mosquito control tools VS dengue

By William Agda

The Department of Health Center for Health Development – Northern Mindanao (DOH CHD-NM) distributed battery-operated backpack sprayers and blowers to local government units as part of efforts to combat dengue and other Aedes-borne diseases. The initiative supports the region’s implementation of the Dengue Enhanced 4S Strategy.

The tools will be used for targeted fogging operations in high-risk areas to reduce mosquito populations and limit disease transmission. The 4S Strategy focuses on searching for mosquito breeding sites, seeking early consultation for symptoms, supporting spraying operations, and practicing self-protection measures.

Northern Mindanao has experienced an increase in dengue cases, making prevention and control efforts critical. The distribution of equipment is part of broader public health initiatives to protect communities from mosquito-borne illnesses.

Local officials expressed gratitude for the additional resources, which are expected to enhance their ability to respond to outbreaks. Public education campaigns continue to complement these efforts, emphasizing the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding grounds.
