DepEd allows private schools to adopt June 16 class opening for SY 2025-2026

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced that private schools may adopt the June 16, 2025 class opening for school year 2025–2026, aligning with the return to the old June-to-March calendar.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the change, approved by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., was made in response to concerns about extreme classroom heat during summer months.

Under the law, school may begin as early as the first Monday of June but no later than August 31. The new academic year will run from June 16, 2025 to March 31, 2026, totaling 197 class days.
