DBM releases P1B for Marawi siege victims compensation

MANILA – The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released P1 billion for the 2024 Marawi Siege Victims Compensation, as announced by Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman.

The allocation will provide monetary compensation to 574 beneficiaries, covering structural damages and death claims. Secretary Pangandaman emphasized the significance of the fund release in supporting the recovery and rehabilitation of Marawi City.

“As a daughter of Mindanao, I can say that this P1-billion Marawi Siege Victims Compensation is a big help for our fellow Marawi residents to recover. The administration of President Marcos wants to provide adequate support and capacity to the affected families so they can return to normal life,” she stated.

The compensation aims to provide relief to victims of the 2017 Marawi crisis, covering claims for both fully and partially damaged structures, as well as for lives lost during the conflict.

Section 41 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of RA No. 11696 outlines the process for determining monetary compensation. Eligible claimants will receive payments based on the extent of their losses.

The Marawi Compensation Board will manage the fund distribution. Compensation is tax-free, and families of those who lost their lives during the siege will also receive compensation according to the relevant laws.

The SARO, approved on September 24, 2024, is chargeable against the FY 2024 General Appropriations Act.
