Davao Region census reaches 70% coverage ahead of October 31 deadline

DAVAO CITY – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will conduct the 2024 Population Census (PopCen) and Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) until October 31, urging residents to cooperate with enumerators to reach the target.

“We have reached almost 70 percent of our goal and hope to cover the remaining 30 percent in the next 15 days. We ask for everyone’s cooperation,” PSA-Davao del Sur Officer-in-Charge Jesse Madulin said Monday.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directed the PSA to update social protection program beneficiaries through the CBMS.

As of October 16, PSA-Davao del Sur has reached about 403,000 respondents, or 70 percent of the estimated 590, 000 target.

The census covers Davao City and surrounding areas.

Madulin said integrating PopCen with CBMS operations ahead of its original 2025 schedule was necessary to optimize resources and minimize respondent fatigue.

The census faced challenges due to residents not at home during the day, enumerator resignations, and difficulty accessing certain areas.

Data from the 2024 PopCen-CBMS will update the country’s population inventory and guide the planning and implementation of poverty alleviation programs. (PNA)
