Davao de Oro launches ‘Barangay Information Network’ vs disinformation

By Sam Ramos

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) has launched the Barangay Information Officers Network (BION) in Davao de Oro to combat the spread of fake news and improve information dissemination.

The network, composed of 237 barangay information officers, aims to establish a more efficient flow of information between communities and local governments. By providing accurate and timely information, BIOs can help communities prepare for and respond to emergencies, such as natural disasters.

The initiative aligns with the Local Government Code’s provision requiring villages to maintain information and reading centers. By empowering BIOs, the government aims to strengthen community resilience and promote informed decision-making.
