Davao City to digitize LCR records

The Local Civil Registry of Davao City is set to digitize its records after the Council approved an ordinance to digitalize the city’s Local Civil Registry (LCR) through the Civil Registration Information System (CRIS) online.

The implementation of the digitalization of the Local Civil Registry is just awaiting budget, Councilor Bonz Andre Militar, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s Committee on Information and Technology, said during the Aprubado sa Konseho media forum that the landmark ordinance was approved on the third and final reading.

“This year we will start the implementation after the budgeting, it may be included in the Supplemental Budget 1,” Militar said.

Militar said that Php 5 million will be allotted for the purchase of scanners, computers, and firewalls and other necessary equipment and software development.

“Since 1946 the records are all hard copies so we are going to convert them to the digital format using those scanners, and will upload them to the server. Based on our estimate, we can upload a thousand documents to our cloud server per day,” Militar said.

Militar added that with the new system, data from the LCR can also be accessed by partner agencies, cutting short the time for requesting documents from the LCR Office.

“For example if the DFA will require a birth certificate, [the client] no longer needs to go to LCR to queue again. The record is already made available at the DFA,” Militar said.
