Davao City to create its first Culture & Arts Office

DAVAO CITY – The City Government of Davao is taking significant steps to bolster the local arts scene by establishing an Office for Culture and the Arts. This initiative follows the passage of City Ordinance No. 0332-23 in November 2023, which mandates the creation of this office under the City Mayor’s Office.

The new office aims to support and promote Dabawenyo artists, ensuring the conservation of the city’s historical and cultural heritage while fostering the development of local arts programs. These programs will be integrated into both formal and non-formal educational settings to nurture future generations of artists. A key objective of the office is to advocate for the interests and welfare of artists and cultural workers in Davao.

Mayor Sebastian Duterte has expressed the city’s commitment to enhancing its cultural landscape and providing platforms for local artists, musicians, and cultural advocates. Councilor Pilar Braga, Chair of the Committee for Culture and the Arts, emphasized the importance of culture and arts development for the city’s growth.

Preparations for the establishment of the office are currently underway, reflecting a strong commitment from the city government to support and promote Davao’s vibrant arts and cultural community . For more details, you can check the full articles on the Davao City Information Office website.
