Dagupan City is set to implement its annual free summer sports program as part of its ongoing youth and sports development initiatives of the Dagupan City government, according to the Dagupan City Sports Division.
Finnela T. Sim, Youth and Sports Development Officer IV, said the grassroots sports program is the city’s primary sports activity for young people during the summer break, typically held in May.
The program aims to encourage physical activity among children and reduce excessive screen time by engaging them in organized sports training.
Sim said all summer sports activities will be offered free of charge, allowing broader access to sports training that is often costly for families. The program covers various individual sports, including swimming, arnis, taekwondo, wushu, boxing, and others.
Participants will undergo approximately 10 training sessions throughout the month of May. The program is open to children aged 7 to 16, with limited slots also available for 17-year-olds preparing for college.
The summer sports program is scheduled to begin on May 4. The city sports office advised interested participants and parents to monitor the Dagupan City Sports Division’s official Facebook page for registration details and the complete list of available sports activities.
Meanwhile, preparations are also underway for Dagupan City’s participation in the Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet scheduled on April 5 in Candon, Ilocos Sur, where selected city athletes will compete.
