The Department of Agriculture in Caraga (DA-13) has awarded a PHP1.6-million grant to the municipality of Libjo in Dinagat Islands to enhance the agricultural and fishery sectors under the Enhanced Kadiwa Program.
The grant, turned over on Tuesday, will fund the purchase of a refrigerated van to transport farm and fishery products, ensuring freshness and minimizing post-harvest losses during deliveries to market centers.
During the turnover ceremony, DA-13 Regional Executive Director Arlan Mangelen presented the grant to Libjo Mayor Melody Compasivo. Municipal agriculturist Lope Loverio highlighted the van’s critical role in consolidating and transporting products efficiently.
“This facility will streamline product delivery to initiatives like the ‘Tabo sa Kapitolyo’ (Market at the Capitol), ensuring timely access to markets,” Loverio said, adding that the van will help local farmers and fishers expand their market reach, creating more opportunities to sell their products.
The Enhanced Kadiwa Program, implemented through the DA’s Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division, aims to boost the profitability of farmers and fishers by improving production and market access. The initiative provides vital infrastructure and support to address logistical challenges and enhance economic opportunities in rural communities.
The new refrigerated van is expected to significantly benefit Libjo’s agricultural and fishery sectors by preserving product quality and supporting efficient distribution, strengthening the local economy.
