Culinary tourism ‘blossoms in PH’s Art Capital’ – Angono VM

Culinary tourism in Angono, Rizal, known as the “Art Capital of the Philippines,” has been thriving due to improved road infrastructure, according to Vice Mayor Gerry Calderon.

In a statement on Wednesday, Calderon noted that Angono ranked first in the 2023 Philippine Competitiveness Index for Infrastructure among 1, 499 municipalities across the country. This recognition highlights the local government’s efforts in developing and constructing additional roads connecting Angono to nearby towns, enhancing accessibility for tourists.

The vice mayor also pointed out that around 25, 000 local travelers visit Angono each month, drawn by the town’s rich artistic heritage and growing culinary scene. Calderon underscored the need for further infrastructure improvements to sustain this influx and continue supporting the town’s tourism and economic growth.

Angono’s success in culinary tourism is closely tied to its strong cultural identity as the home of National Artists Carlos “Botong” Francisco and Lucio San Pedro. The town has become a hub for both art and food enthusiasts, with local delicacies such as “balaw-balaw,” a fermented shrimp dish, and art-inspired cafes attracting visitors. The improved connectivity has made it easier for tourists to explore these offerings, boosting the town’s reputation as a top cultural and gastronomic destination in the Philippines.
