BAGUIO CITY – Authorities in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) on Sunday suspended classes for Monday as the region has been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1-4 due to Super Typhoon Pepito (international name Man-yi).
Mayor Benjamin Magalong has suspended classes in all levels for both public and private educational institutions, and government work in the first half of the day.
“We resume [work] in the afternoon so that we can provide service to the clients,” he said in a media interview on the sidelines of the “Takbo para sa West Philippine Sea” (Run for the West Philippine Sea) event at Burnham Park.
He, however, clarified that the half day work for city government workers will be re-assessed based on the actual weather condition.
He also asked the residents to stay home and monitor the weather condition and to call “911” for emergency assistance.
Meanwhile, classes in all levels and work in government offices for Monday have been suspended in La Trinidad town, the capital of Benguet province.
Paracelis town Mayor Marcos Ayangwa of Mountain Province also announced the suspension of classes from kindergarten to senior high school for Monday.
Road situation
Mountain Province Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr., who also heads the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), has cautioned the public from unnecessary travels even as all roads and bridges are passable.
“Better to stay home for your safety,” he said.
Kennon Road remains open but only for residents in the area.
“Kennon road is not passable except for Kennon residents only until further notice due to threat passed by Super Typhoon Pepito,” the advisory of Governor Melchor Diclas said. (PNA)
