Cop may face charges for firing gun in middle of traffic: PNP

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said it will investigate a police officer who allegedly fired his gun in the middle of traffic in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig.

During her manifestation at the House Quad Committee hearing, ACT Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro said she personally witnessed the shooting incident from her car on Wednesday night.

“We will have to check. I will provide updates on that but if indeed identified yung pulis na ‘yun at identified na siya ay nagpaputok (the police officer and determined that he fire his gun), then we will file corresponding criminal and admin cases if indeed totoo ito (it’s true),” PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing at Camp Crame.

Castro said the two police officers went out of their patrol car, which was positioned in front of her vehicle after a motorcycle moved closer to the cops.

The lawmaker said one of the police officers allegedly fired his gun in an area crowded with civilians.

Meanwhile, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) acting chief, Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, directed the Southern Police District (SPD) to determine whether the shooting incident happened along Makati Avenue or inside BGC.

“Right now, our investigators are on the ground to determine the details of the incident. Part of the investigation is to find out why no report was made by Makati City Police Station regarding the incident,” Aberin said.

Aberin said the Makati City Police Station chief of police, the commander of Sub-station 6 and the personnel directly involved in the incident will be relieved from their posts to pave the way for the impartial investigation. (PNA)
