Comelec removes 694K voters as it cleanses list for 2025 polls

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has removed nearly 694,000 registered voters from the voters’ list as part of its efforts to clean up the rolls ahead of next year’s midterm elections.

According to data released on Monday, the Comelec reported that 693,558 registered voters have been removed from the list.

Of this total, 249,343 registrations were canceled due to deaths, as certified by Local Civil Registrars.

Additionally, 220,644 voters were removed after transferring to a different city or municipality.

The Comelec’s Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) identified 179,141 voters with double registrations, leading to the deletion of their records.

Furthermore, 42,236 registered voters were canceled after applying to vote overseas.

Another 2,194 voters with double entries were also deleted from the list.

The poll body recorded a total of 67,839,861 registered voters during the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
