COMELEC moves COC filing on BARMM polls to November

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has rescheduled the filing period for certificates of candidacy (COC) for the 2025 Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections. Originally set for October, the filing period has been moved to November 4 to 9, 2024, according to Comelec Resolution No. 11051 released on Wednesday.

Candidates for District Representative in the BARMM parliament must file their COCs during this new period at the Bangsamoro Electoral Office (BEO). The deadline for regional parliamentary political parties to submit their List of Nominees and Manifestations of Intent to Participate has also been extended to November 9, 2024.

Comelec chairman George Garcia explained that the Supreme Court’s ruling to exclude Sulu province from BARMM has necessitated adjustments, leading to the postponement of certain election-related activities. Despite the rescheduling, Garcia assured the public that preparations for the BARMM polls, which will coincide with the May 12, 2025, midterm elections, remain on track.
