The Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution commending 133 medalists of the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Dagupan for their outstanding performance and exemplary achievements in the 2026 Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) in Candon City, Ilocos Sur last week.
The medalists include 53 athletes from the elementary division and 80 from the secondary division who competed among the best athletes from 13 other athletic delegations from Region 1.
In the just-concluded R1AA meet, Dagupan’s elementary division athletes bagged 17 gold, 17 silver, and 21 bronze medals, while its secondary division earned 16 gold, 20 silver, and 30 bronze.
Aside from this, Dagupan was champion in basketball in the secondary division and will represent Region 1 in the Palarong Pambansa.
Overall, Dagupan City places seventh among 14 athletic delegations, amassing 33 gold, 37 silver, and 51 bronze medals.
In the para games, Dagupan City placed ninth in overall ranking, bagging one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal.
They competed with some 7,000 young athletes from the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, and Ilocos Sur.
The SP resolution sponsored by Councilors Michael Fernandez and Jeslito Seen stipulates that the achievement garnered by the Dagupan athletes, through their exceptional skills, discipline, and unwavering dedication, earned and brought pride and honor to the city of Dagupan.
The two councilors said the medals earned by these athletes reflect not only their personal excellence but also the collective support of their families, coaches, mentors, and community, proving that when the youth are empowered and guided, they become powerful agents of inspiration and progress.
