MANILA – The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) and its partners have reactivated its information drive against online scams that proliferate during Undas or All Saints’ Day.
In a statement Wednesday, CICC Executive Director, Undersecretary Alexander Ramos, said Oplan Bantay Lakbay: Undas 2024 is a partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Scam Watch Pilipinas to ensure safe and efficient travel for all Filipinos and tourists from October 30 to November 5.
“While our fellow Filipinos are eager to visit the grave of our dearly departed, we sometimes also fall prey to online scammers through hotel and transportation bookings,” he said.
The information drive warns the public against connecting with open and unsecured Wi-Fis, using fake e-wallet apps, and fake customer service.
Other common scams during this period include fraudulent accommodations scams, too-good-to-be-true deals, fake travel agents, charity cons, counterfeit cash, hidden CCTVs, and fixers such as those that sell overpriced tickets.
He called on the public to reach out to the CICC’s Inter-Agency Response Center hotline 1326 for any travel concerns aside from cyberfraud.
Online scam victims must submit a report to 1326 while those who received text scams or phishing emails can submit a report using the eGov super app via the eReport feature. (PNA)
