Cebu honored for hosting UNTO meetings

CEBU CITY – The Department of Tourism (DOT) held an appreciation dinner to recognize the stakeholders in Cebu who contributed to the resounding success of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UNTO) Joint Commission Forum in June.

Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia expressed gratitude to the DOT for choosing Cebu as the venue for this significant international event, highlighting the province’s capacity as a tourism destination.

From June 26-28, Cebu hosted the 36th Joint Meeting of the UN Tourism Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and the UN Tourism Commission for South Asia (36th CAP-CSA), along with the first UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific. The event attracted over 300 delegates from 30 UNTO-member countries.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, a Cebu native, praised the Cebuano people for their excellence, passion, and creativity, which played a vital role in the success of the UNTO events. She emphasized the careful planning, dedication, and shared vision that contributed to the exceptional outcome.

The Cebu Provincial Government organized technical tours for the delegates, showcasing three top tourist destinations: the Camotes Group of Islands, Dalaguete and Argao, and Aloguinsan’s Hermit’s Cove and Bojo River Cruise.
