On November 30, 2024, PCOL Antonietto Ybañez Cañete, the City Director of the Cebu City Police Office, took part in the grand opening of Phase 1 of the Carbon Tourism Zone. The event, aims to ‘revitalize one of Cebu City’s most historic districts,’ was led by Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin N. Garcia.

The grand opening ceremony featured the official turnover of the key for the newly refurbished Carbon Police Station 5 Office, an essential component of the city’s ongoing development projects. Representatives from Megawide, the construction firm in charge of the renovation, presented the key to local authorities as part of the efforts to enhance the Carbon district.

After the turnover, the program proceeded with a blessing ceremony for several newly refurbished facilities, including the first and second floors of the Carbon Police Station 5, the Loading Area, Karumata Lane Parking, and the Material Recovery Facilities. These upgrades aim to improve the area’s overall infrastructure, contributing to both security and sustainability within the community.

PCOL Cañete conveyed his appreciation for the collaboration between the Cebu City Police Office and the local government in enhancing public safety and community features.

The Carbon Tourism Zone is an integral part of Cebu City’s broader initiative to stimulate tourism and economic growth, particularly in the historic Carbon market area, which has traditionally served as a cultural and commercial center for the city. The initial phase of the tourism zone is anticipated to significantly bolster the local economy, focusing on sustainable tourism and community participation.
