Cebu City offers two-year tax amnesty

By Xander Ledesma

Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia has signed Executive Order No. 22, which grants a two-year tax amnesty for real property taxes. The amnesty covers penalties, surcharges, and interests on unpaid taxes, including special education fund, idle land tax, and other special levies.

The amnesty period will run from July 5, 2024, to July 4, 2026. The City Government aims to encourage taxpayers to settle their overdue accounts and boost revenue collection.

The city’s delinquent tax receivables have reached P4 billion. By waiving penalties and surcharges, the city government hopes to incentivize taxpayers to pay their outstanding balances.

Taxpayers can choose to pay the principal amount in full before December 15, 2024, or opt for a staggered payment plan over one year with a 10% penalty.

The city government believes that this tax amnesty will not only benefit taxpayers but also contribute to the city’s overall development and public service delivery.
