The Cebu City Police Office, under the leadership of PCOL Antonietto Ybañez Cañete, took part in the nationwide observance of the 161st anniversary of Andres Bonifacio’s birth, which took place at Plaza Independencia in Cebu City on the morning of November 30, 2024. This event served as a meaningful homage to Bonifacio, known as the Father of the Philippine Revolution, who was instrumental in the nation’s struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule.

The anniversary event, organized by the Cebu City government, united numerous government agencies, law enforcement officials, and non-governmental organizations. Prominent figures from Cebu City, including heads of local government departments and police personnel, were present at the ceremony to honor Bonifacio’s bravery and the lasting significance of his contributions to Philippine history.

During the commemoration, speakers shared their thoughts on the principles of freedom, equality, and patriotism that Bonifacio passionately supported during the revolutionary era of the 1890s. They stressed the necessity of continuing to uphold these ideals today, particularly in terms of safeguarding national security and protecting the country’s sovereignty. The event also served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by Filipino heroes in their quest for freedom.

Every November 30, the anniversary of Bonifacio’s birth is commemorated throughout the Philippines, with various ceremonies and activities organized in cities and towns to acknowledge his contribution to nation-building. Bonifacio’s leadership in the Katipunan, a revolutionary group that advocated for Philippine independence, is recognized as a crucial moment in the nation’s fight for freedom.

The celebration in Cebu further emphasized the significance of unity and collective efforts in ensuring the ongoing development and security of the nation. Through this commemoration, local leaders expressed their dedication to upholding the nation’s sovereignty and the values exemplified by Bonifacio.
