Cebu City launches free public Wi-Fi at Plaza Sugbo

Cebu City has officially launched a free public Wi-Fi service at Plaza Sugbo, providing internet access to residents and tourists. During a ceremony led by Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia, accompanied by Cebu City Councilors Jaypee Labella and Francis Esparis.

The event included the ceremonial turnover of outdoor Wi-Fi access points, with representatives from Trends and Technologies Inc., the supplier and installer of the infrastructure, and officials from Cebu City Hall in attendance. The service offers users free internet access for up to two hours daily.

Plaza Sugbo, located across from the Cebu City Hall Legislative Building, is a popular venue for public events and gatherings. The introduction of free Wi-Fi aims to enhance accessibility and convenience for users engaging in activities such as browsing, streaming, or work-related tasks.

This initiative aligns with Cebu City’s efforts to improve digital access and promote technological advancements in public spaces. The project reflects the growing recognition of internet connectivity as an essential service, particularly in urban areas.

Mayor Garcia emphasized the project’s role in enhancing connectivity and contributing to Cebu City’s broader vision of becoming a smart city. The partnership with Trends and Technologies Inc. highlights the collaboration between the public and private sectors to meet modern connectivity demands.
