By Matthew Go

A fire destroyed homes in Kawit and Imus, Cavite, early Monday, leaving 120 families homeless just two days before Christmas.

The blaze started at 5:00 a.m. in Kalye Onse, Gahak-Marulas, Kawit, and spread rapidly to Barangay Pag-asa III, Imus, due to strong winds. Firefighters contained the fire, raised to the first alarm at 5:43 a.m., by 6:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported, but damage is estimated at PHP 250,000. Evacuees are staying in shelters, including Tinabunan Elementary School, where aid is being distributed.

Authorities are investigating the fire’s cause, with initial findings pointing to an unattended candle. This marks the latest in a series of fires in the area, the last occurring in 2019.
