Car-free Tomas Morato on Sundays launched by Mayor Belmonte

The Quezon City local government unit officially launched the Sunday Car-free, Carefree Tomas Morato initiative on December 8 The said program marks the full implementation of an ordinance designating Tomas Morato Avenue as car-free and open for resident activities every first Sunday of the month, from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

Mayor Joy Belmonte led the event, with the participation of the City Council Committee on City Planning, Building, and Zoning Chairperson Councilor Irene R. Belmonte, GALANG Philippines President Ms. Anne Lim, Business Permits and Licensing Department Head Ms. Ma. Margarita Mejia, and the Ambassador of Switzerland to the Philippines, Dr. iur. Nicholas Brühl.

Also present were Councilor Doc Ellie Juan, Liga ng mga Barangay President Mari Rodriguez, and Traffic and Transport Management Department Head Dexter Cardenas.

In her speech, Mayor Belmonte emphasized that “roads are not meant for vehicles alone, and it is time to reclaim them for pedestrians and cyclists.”
