The Capiz Police Provincial Office’s Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) confiscated approximately 80 grams of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride), valued at around PHP 544, 000, during a pre-dawn raid in Barangay Lawaan, Roxas City. The operation, conducted at 2:13 AM, marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat illegal drugs in the region.
Authorities had been monitoring the area for an extended period after receiving intelligence reports indicating a drug distribution network in Roxas City. The operation followed weeks of surveillance and coordination with other law enforcement agencies, ensuring that the raid was carried out effectively and with minimal risk.
According to Capiz Provincial Police Director Col. Alfredo S. Miranda, the operation was executed under a court-issued search warrant. The PDEU, along with members of the Roxas City Police Station and other local law enforcement units, raided the targeted location, a residential area on the city’s outskirts. The raid resulted in the discovery of 80 grams of shabu, which was packaged in several small plastic sachets and hidden in various parts of the residence.
A male suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigation, was arrested at the scene and is facing charges related to the unlawful possession and distribution of controlled substances. Authorities believe the suspect is connected to a larger drug syndicate operating in the area. His arrest is expected to provide valuable information that could help dismantle the local drug network.
Capiz, located in the Western Visayas region, has seen a rise in drug-related activities in recent years. Local authorities have reported that drug syndicates are becoming increasingly sophisticated, with shabu being trafficked into both urban and rural communities in the province. The recent seizure in Barangay Lawaan represents a significant disruption to these operations.
