Cagayan de Oro kicks off ‘National Volunteer Month’ with inaugural ‘Hero-Run’

Nearly 2,000 participants joined the first-ever “Hero-Run” on Sunday, December 1, 2024, marking the start of National Volunteer Month celebrations in the city.

The event was spearheaded by the Volunteerism and Active Citizenship program under the Community Affairs Office of Cagayan de Oro, in collaboration with various partner organizations and volunteers.

The fun run served as the opening activity for National Volunteer Month, an annual observance in December designated by Presidential Proclamation No. 55, issued in 1998. The month aims to raise awareness and encourage participation in volunteerism for nation-building.

Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency Executive Director Donald James D. attended the event, underscoring its “importance and witnessing the city’s vibrant kickoff activities for the month-long celebration.”

Organizers emphasized that the Hero-Run highlighted “the value of collective action and community engagement, serving as a platform to honor and inspire the spirit of volunteerism across the nation.”
