MANILA – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said it is committed to protecting wildlife and environmental sustainability, as it recently organized an airport wildlife management course to emphasize these.
“Through courses like this, we expand our knowledge to achieve more efficient operations, safer air traffic management, and enhanced protection of biodiversity,” CAAP Director General Manuel Tamayo was quoted as saying in the three-day seminar at the Civil Aviation Training Center that ended last December 13.
Wildlife hazards and bird strikes remain persistent challenges in the aviation industry, he said.
Comprehensive guidance on mitigating wildlife hazards in aviation was tackled during the course.
According to CAAP, the course highlights the agency’s steadfast commitment to balancing safety, efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
Last March, CAAP-operated Tacloban Airport held simulation exercises, including responding to an aircraft that experienced bird strike.
According to news reports over the weekend, a bird strike has affected the engine of an American Airlines aircraft, causing the pilot to make an emergency landing. (PNA)
