CA to deliberate Vince Dizon’s appointment as transport chief on June 3

The Commission on Appointments (CA) will take up the confirmation of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon’s ad interim appointment on June 3, according to Surigao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel, an assistant minority leader of the CA.

In a statement Sunday, Pimentel noted that ad interim appointments take immediate effect even while Congress is in recess, allowing appointees like Dizon to assume their duties prior to confirmation. Congress is set to resume session on June 2.

Dizon was appointed transport secretary earlier this year, replacing Secretary Jaime Bautista. His confirmation hearing will be among the first scheduled items when the CA convenes after the congressional break.

Pimentel also announced that on June 4, the CA’s Committee on Constitutional Commissions and Offices will review the ad interim appointments of Noli Pipo and Maria Norina Tangaro-Casingal to the Commission on Elections, Luis Meinrado Pañgulayan to the Civil Service Commission, and Douglas Michael Mallillin to the Commission on Audit.

Under the Constitution, the president appoints key government officials—including department secretaries and constitutional commissioners—subject to CA approval. The CA is chaired by the Senate president and composed of 12 senators and 12 House members.
