BuCor orders preventive measures following Bilibid stabbing incident

MANILA – The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Thursday directed superintendents of prison and penal farms to take precautionary measures to ensure that no untoward incident will occur at their facilities following a stabbing incident at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City that resulted in the death of an inmate and injuries to two others.

In a statement, the BuCor said it is withholding the names of those involved in the incident until their families have been duly informed.

The agency stressed its commitment to maintaining dignity and respect for the families of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) affected by the incident.

Based on a report submitted by NBP Acting Superintendent Corrections Chief Inspector Roger Boncales, the incident happened around 7:15 a.m. Thursday at Gate 1-A, Quadrant 4 of the Maximum Security Camp of the NBP.

The BuCor directed all superintendents of operating and prison farms to take precautionary measure to ensure the safety of both PDLs and staff while the incident is being investigated. (PNA)
