BATANGAS CITY, Batangas — The government’s intensified crackdown on illegal drugs and contrabands inside detention facilities continues as the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Brooke’s Point District Jail in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Station South Central Palawan and its K9 Group, conducted Operation Greyhound at the BJMP manned jail facility in Brgy. Tubtub, Brooke’s Point, Palawan on Thursday, March 27.
Under Operation Greyhound, the BJMP and other law enforcement agencies (LEAs) search jail cells for contraband such as illegal drugs, deadly weapons and communication devices.
In a press release, BJMP Mimaropa information officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo said that the surprise inspection was carried out by jail authorities led by assistant warden Senior Jail Officer 2 Warren Villaruel and coast guard personnel led by its team leader, Petty Officer First Class Sanny Alcansare.
He said, the operation was part of the program of the BJMP to ensure that there are no illegal drugs and sharp weapons, among others, inside jail facilities.
“Through this, PDLs and personnel are kept safe from harm while enhancing the overall security of the jail.”
This is also to ensure the safety of the PDLs and the public who would visit the jail, he added.
No contrabands were recovered from PDLs’ living spaces during the operation.
Anglo said that the zero recovery of contrabands from inside these jail dormitories is “not unusual”.
This does not also mean that the information about their operation leaked. This, he said, is a manifestation that the district jail management is doing good in their functions.
In earlier reports, BJMP Mimaropa director Jail Senior Superintendent Clarence Mayangao had instructed all jail units in the region to regularly conduct inspections.
